‘लाहमो’ जस्तो Can Infotech !!!
January 9, 2007CAN Infotech 2007, has been an overly charmed destination for aspiring enthusiasts to visit once a year to what changes have been brought in techworld. It’s our misfortune that we are shown with third class technology, most of the time. I don’t deny that there may be very few exceptions but it’s reality that whereever we go, to the masses, it’s always the aged products. So, to my eyes, Nepal is small beautiful country where technology lands so last.
What i feel is , big entrepreneurs who have jumped to IT business, creates hypes among the customers as we are going to believe what they say. At least for someone like me , they can’t fool. These big fishes are trying to make money out of newbie customers with overwhelmingly confusing tech jargons. If i go deeproot, somewhere they can’t answer what i asked or they remain clueless. Nepalese are fools and they can be fooled and looted. That’s how they think. I’m not against the show(s) like this. But their vision is not clear. They talk something else and work otherway.
Now, what is the meaning of “New Nepal, E-Nepal?” Till date, i never knew country’s name tagged that way. We are far behind what we are supposed to be. And , when we see the slogans, it feels like we’re right ’second’ after the silicon valley. ‘E-Nepal’!!! huh.. So, this way they create hype. This is bullshit. They might come up with something sensitive slogan which describes our current condition and try to be more sensible.
I don’t know how true they are in previous years that visitors number exceeded more than 3 lakhs. They are expecting more visitors than last yearsm, this time. So, why are they counting on numbers? I think they surely want more crowds and wants to show the most happening event in town. Lets assume, approx. 3 lakhs would visit paying average of 50 Rupees, it’s summed up figure would be somewhere near 1 crore 50 lakh rupees. They gather money from the stalls, both useful and useless stalls. So, where do all those money go? Where is the affordable technology we are expecting? where are the infrastructures? Where is the job placement for IT graduate? Why can’t they put pressure on government? Are we all so sluggish that it take years and years to progress?
I want to blame noone. It’s my feelings that there are lots of liars on those stalls, who do things what they don’t tell, and don’t do anything what they claim so confidently during events like these. It is somewhat cocktail(khichadi). Last year, i saw some models on ramp carrying some sort of newest gadgets. It’s fascinating. Most of the poor Nepalese can’t afford such tech-gadgets. For them it’s ” aakash ko fal, ankha tari mal”. I must say, it’s so ironical. Why can’t they focus on Nepalese context?
I think, this year also, it’s same old thing like in previous years with unnoticeable upgrades on those products. Nothing New, same old thing albeit for cheaper price(aged products). They’ll show Big screen LCD monitors, MFDs,mini-size high storage devices, multimedia, processors, ergonomy, latest trendy entertainment gadgets, security devices etc with more or less features. Things are getting compact more and more but in the contrary it’s getting more and more pricy too. It’s okay to get in touch with the latest trend but we should be able to focus on country’s priority too. Technology must invade even poors living. Even farmer should know what ‘SMS’ is. These big corporates are just centered around cities because they can dig more money out of it.
Well we indeed are fool and we indeed do get fooled by big fishes who use some complicated tech jargons to confuse us . We have a singel it event and that too has so much shorthcomings . The tech players have failed to met the expectations and affordable technology is still a dream . I think that we should learn form our nebhouring country india which is rapidly advancing in the feild of technology . Leave the technologies we dont even have decent it mags . Well when it comes to making big talks we exceed the whole world but the state of IT is in shame in our so called “new e-nepal” .
At first, i feel like condemn government but still, the money they collect out of 3,00,000 or more visitors, where does it go?
Where is the investment? What have they done to ease our daily life? has Internet been cheap to us? Has daily means of communication reacheable to every where? etc.. nothing.
so, i think there is something wrong within CAN administration. Those big mouths talk very good but in reality , the case is very worst.
yeah, we really need to improve.
The very good article. yesterday I also gone to caninfor tech as of regular annual visit and I visit from last 13 years but I cant able to see the change it going on as usual selling a cheap product and making illusive to visitors. It totally just like a footpath pasal in bhrikutimandap where khasa goods are sold in crying and pulling to visitors.
Ras, well, this post approximate is dated one year back and It’s sad to know that this year also is the same thing. What else can we expect now??

CAN infotech is useless , Its for average or new customers . The huge money they collect from visitors goes in their pockets .Beside these most of the goods they sale their is smugglled . They did not pay custom for the most of the goods on sale .Beside this , all the goods are available in the Market , why you need to go there , where even it is difficult breathe .If they really want IT revolution are they providing CAN shcolarship , CAN rural IT program . Had they organized any such expo in country side . This is event is just to collect money .
Still, most of the recent technologies especially computers and its parts can be found in one place so that no necessary to walk here and there. To control smugglled (if) is the job of government. Most of the businessmen are oppertunist and try to find loophole to earn money it is global concept however they should do business socially responsibly.
